Event Services

Media Services / Events offers live event support to the Rice community. We charge a small fee, but the charge is a fraction of what outside vendors would charge. Please feel free to contact us about your event even if you are uncertain that you will need our services - we are always glad to help! Contact avevents@rice.edu or Carlos Solis (713) 348-5687

Production Consulting, Planning, and Coordination

Our Event Coordinator works to assure your needs are understood and your events are successfully produced. The Event Coordinator will meet with customers to plan the event and manage the technical requirements involved. We are able to handle any single-day event, large multi-day seminars, conferences, sporting events, receptions, lectures, performances, or any other occasion.

Lecture and Event Recording

Special guest lectures, conferences, or other special events can be broadcast live to the campus cable system, digitally broadcast on the Internet, or passed through to satellite uplinks to national broadcast networks. A charge is made for the staff time associated with these projects. In addition, we charge for materials and transport costs, voice-over artist, music, etc. These charges are not unreasonable and are a fraction of what commercial enterprises charge.

Field Recording

From conferences and lectures to skits and plays, we can shoot video on-location, on- or off-campus, using Digital Video (DV) camcorders, professional lighting and sound for high-quality productions.

Streaming Internet Video Archive

Our Media Servers can stream your video out on the Internet. We use the Realmedia system and Windows Media system to achieve high-quality pictures and sound whether viewed on the campus network, cable modem, DSL or POTS modem. Events in some Rice venues can be streamed live, or recorded video from live events can be converted to the appropriate streaming format, stored and then streamed from the Media Servers for post event viewing.

Digital Video Editing

Using state-of-the-art computer-based non-linear editing (NLE) systems, we can turn your raw footage into a polished, completed video, ready for delivery on tape, disc or the 'net. The post production process can be simple and fast, or sophisticated and comprehensive depending on the planned goals of the production.

Videoconferencing

High-speed videoconferencing links to sites worldwide are also available at several sites on campus. These services require extensive testing and setup and should hopefully be arranged at least a month in advance. A number of rooms are available for videoconferencing; the actual room should depend on the number of attendees at the Rice end of the meeting.
