Equipment Functionality Verification (Checking) Procedure
Checking Procedure
Instructions for the control of classroom podium systems are available here.
- Pick up checking bag. Make sure it has all equipment/ materials needed.
- If any equipment is missing, notify Classroom Maintenance Coordinator.
- Proceed to room as the maintenance schedule indicates.
- Turn projector on.
- For Rayzor Hall, Sewell (303, 305, 307), Duncan (1064, 1070), Mechanical Lab, Keck Hall, Dell Butcher Hall, Biology Lab, Andersen Hall, Herzstein Hall (Amp), Herring Hall: Locate remote and press RED "ON" button in "Projector" area (top right of remote).
- For Space Science, Ryon Lab, Baker Building, Sewell Hall (301, 309): Toggle the "Power" switch located at the top left corner inside the cabinet to the "ON" position and then press any of the Source buttons located at the upper extremity of the Podium top.
- For Martel, Brown, Hanszen and Wiess College classrooms and Duncan Hall (1042, 1046, 1075): Locate the wall panel and press the "Projector On" button.
- Lower the Screen: Press the down arrow in the "SCREEN" section.
- Choose each Source and verify its performance to outputs. Podium Jr. rooms do not have sources installed and so you need only test the Laptop (Duncan Hall (1042, 1046, 1075), Hanszen, Wiess, Brown, Martel Colege rooms):
- VCR: Press the VCR source button.
- Insert a VHS tape into the VCR located in the rack.
- Make sure you see video on the Projection Screen.
- Make sure you see video on the Podium Monitor (except in Sewell 303, 305, and 307)
- Make sure you hear the audio through the sound system.
- DVD: Press the DVD source button.
- Make sure you see video on the Projection Screen.
- Make sure you see video on the Podium Monitor.
- Make sure you hear the audio through the sound system.
- PC computer: Press the PC source button.
- Make sure you see video on the Projection Screen.
- Make sure you see video on the Podium Monitor.
- Make sure you hear the audio through the sound system.
- MAC computer: Press the MAC source button.
- Make sure you see video on the Projection Screen.
- Make sure you see video on the Podium Monitor.
- Make sure you hear the audio through the sound system.
- Laptop computer inputs: Press the LAP source button.
- Plug test Laptop device into the SVGA cable and turn on. Video must be set to SVGA 1024X768.
- Make sure you see video on the Projection Screen.
- Plug the audio cable into your audio test device and turn on.
- Make sure you hear the audio through the sound system.
- Document Camera: Press the DOC source button.
- Make sure you see video on the Projection Screen.
- Make sure you see video on the Podium Monitor.
- Slide Projector
- For Huma, Herring (125, 126), Mech Lab, Keck Hall, Sewell Hall: Locate the separate Slide Projector remote. It will most likely be located in the drawer of the podium's rack.
- For Rayzor, Herring (128), Biology Lab, Andersen Hall, Keck Hall (Chem Lec),: The slide projector controls are part of the room's Podium remote.
- Press the "On" button.
- Make sure that the fan is on and that you can see the lightbulb glowing inside the machine. Without a slide in the machine, the light will not shine out the front of the machine because the shutter remains closed.
- Press the forward arrow to advance a slide. Be certain you here the slide projector click once and the action fall once to move the carousel forward.
- If any of the steps above fail, call the Classroom Maintenance Coordinator.
- If you notice another problem with the room that does not hinder any of the functions above, but will degrade the quality of the room for the user, email the Classroom Maintenance Coordinator (cts@rice.edu).
